The original flowing vinyasa practice encourages tapas, building the internal heat that supports the physical practice of stretching and strengthening and the energetic or spiritual transformation that becomes possible with focused practice. Synchronizing strong and steady Ujjayi breath with a set rhythm of sun salutations, standing postures, sitting postures and closing sequence, your practice can become a moving meditation. Prior yoga experience is recommended for this class.
Mary and Emily first spotted each other in Burlington at Yoga Vermont, where they have over 30 combined years of Ashtanga experience, including yoga teacher trainings with Kathy McNames and David Swenson. Years later, when they next spotted each other at the Craftsbury General Store, the Ashtangis whooped with joy and have been practicing primary series together as often as possible since then, preferably outside in the sunshine as wildflowers and butterflies pass through their drishti. They're so happy to offer their gratitude and love for this practice by teaching it for others.
